Its Friday Fun-day, so we've put together some facts that you probably didn’t know about office furniture

 

Fact 1

Did you know: the first commercial offices started up in industrial cities throughout Northern America in the late 19th century.

 

Fact 2

Did you know: Charles Darwin was one of the earliest innovators of the modern office chair in the 1800’s. Charles decided to add wheels to his chair so that he could move around his study and get to his specimens quicker.

 

Fact 3

Did you know: People in the United States of America spend at least 1,008 hours per year at work.

 

Fact 4

Did you know: Two German brothers thought of the idea of the first open-plan office. They called it Bürolandschaft, or “office landscape.”

 

Fact 5

Did you know: The oldest bookcase in the world can be found at the Bodleian Library at Oxfordshire University, which is in-fact one of the oldest libraries in Europe.

 

Fact 6

Did you know: Before chairs came into common use, people would sit on wooden benches or stones!

 

Fact 7

Did you know: Surprisingly, despite the rugged design of some of the first office chairs, comfort was actually the design focus, however this wasn’t for the benefit of the employee, in fact the idea was to make the chair as comfortable and functional as possible so that employees would stay in their chairs longer ensuring more work was completed!
