So you’ve made the decision to replace or buy a new office desk, but how do you choose the right desk for you and your team?

Office desking comes in various sizes and shapes including rectangular, crescent, wave, and bench. The desk you choose will depend on the space available and who will be using it.

We know how finding the right desk can be overwhelming and time consuming so we’ve put together a few hints and tips to make the process easier and help you find the perfect desk for your workplace.

Rectangular Desks

A rectangular desk is still a popular choice with the basic design fitting most universal areas.

Ergonomists and DSE specialists recommend rectangular desks for being a good all round desk with great ergonomic benefits that prevent you from sitting at an angle or in a twisted position.

Crescent Desks

A crescent desk is an L shape desk with a curve that offers a larger working area. If you’re using a laptop, flat screen monitor or other thin modern technology devise, you can end up with wasted space in the corner.

Wave Desks

A wave desk is a compromise between the rectangular and crescent desk. This style of desk provides increased desk depth with a left or right hand option. Additionally, the wave desk provides an overall smaller footprint which makes it an ideal desk for areas with limited space.

Bench Systems

Bench desking is an effective chain of desks that share the same frame. This modern style of desk is often used in open plan offices and call centres with the benefits including adaptability and budget savings. Bench desking is designed to share legs, tops, and cable management solutions.

Reception Desks

A reception desk is a style of office desk and is designed for receptions and welcome spaces.

Height Adjustable Desks

Height adjustable desking is the latest innovation in the world of desk design, combining ergonomic form with considerable style.

Upright desks are extremely comfortable and have been proven to be a healthier alternative to a more conventional office desk.

Dimensions

The majority of office desks are available in standard sizes ranging from 1000 – 1800mm wide.

Finishes

Modern MFC desk finishes are realistic and are very durable, with a wide range of finishes to choose from including oak, walnut, cherry, elm, white, beech and ash.

Laminate looks more modern as its thinner, has a large range of colour options and offers more durability and is harder wearing so would be more suitable to lab and workshop type environments.

An alternative option, and if your budget permits you could always opt for a real wood veneer desk. However, it would be worth noting that veneer can mark and scratch easily.

Space Planning

If you’re looking to purchase more than one desk, most good office furniture suppliers will offer a complimentary space planning service which will determine the best use of the space available, taking into consideration the size, shape and finish.

Hopefully you’re now a step closer in choosing your perfect office desk, however should you require some additional advice, a free consultation or would like to use our space planning facility, please get in touch and one of our friendly and experience sales team will be happy to help.
